چکیده

We consider the conductance of a quantum tube connected to a metallic contact. The number of angular momentum states that the tube can support depends on the strength of the radial confinement. We calculate the transmission coefficients which yield the conductance via the Landauer formula, and discuss the relation of our results to armchair carbon nanotubes embedded in a metal. For Al and Au contacts and tubes with a realistic radial confinement we find that the transmission can be close to unity corresponding to a contact resistance close to h/2e per band at the Fermi level in the carbon nanotube. c © 1999 Academic Press Limited

Effect of variation of specifications of quantum well and contact length on performance of InP-based Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL)

Abstract: In this study, the effects of variation of thickness and the number of quantumwells as well as the contact length were investigated. In this paper, a vertical cavity surfaceemitting laser was simulated using of software based on finite element method. Thenumber of quantum wells was changed from 3 to 9 and the results which are related tooutput power, resonance ...

Role of coherence in resistance quantization Quantum Hall and quantum point contact versus charge relaxation resistance

The quantization of resistances in the quantum Hall effect and ballistic transport through quantum point contacts is compared with the quantization of the charge relaxation resistance of a coherent mesoscopic capacitor. While the former two require the existence of a perfectly transmitting channel, the charge relaxation resistance remains quantized for arbitrary backscattering. The quantum Hall...

Dependence of contact resistance on current for ohmic contacts to quantized Hall resistors

The dependence of contact resistance on current has been measured for a large number of ohmic contacts to quantized Hall resistors under quantum Hall effect conditioDS.Five different functional forms of current dependence are observed at low currents. The trend from best to worst quality can be correlated with the density of defects in the contact, regardless of the physical cause of the defect...

Multiwalled carbon nanotubes are ballistic conductors at room temperature

Following the experiments of Frank et al. [1], which demonstrated quantum transport in multiwalled carbon nanotubes, there have been several experiments that appear to contradict the main conclusion of that paper, which is that the transport of a MWNT at room temperature is ballistic. Here we demonstrate that the intrinsic resistance of cleanarc-produced carbon nanotubes is at most 200Ω/μm, whi...
